The Training Clinic

    THE TRAINING CLINIC offers quality in-house training programs for trainers, training managers and coordinators, training designers, supervisors, managers and secretarial support staff. We believe in learning by doing, not just by listening. All of our workshops require a high level of participation by the learner. Transfer of skills to the workplace is stressed by action planning during each workshop.

    Methods of presentation include lecturettes, discussions, case studies, non-threatening role plays, exercises, films and inventories. Class exercises and case studies are customized to the client's industry at no additional charge to the client.

    PERSONAL SKILLS WORKSHOPS

    MANAGE TIME SUCCESSFULLY (1/2 day; 1 day) offers suggestions for personal organization, planning and prioritizing, eliminating time wasters, handling interruptions and crisis management for the supervisor. Cures for procrastination and enhanced use of discretionary time are key elements.

    PROBLEM SOLVING AND DECISION MAKING (1 day) helps you to discover all your resources and options, avoid over-analyzing problems, being decisive, identifying the best method to make decisions given uncertain conditions. Systematic and creative problem solving techniques are addressed.

    EFFECTIVE PRESENTATION (1 day; 2 day) helps overcome fear before a group, plan and develop a speech, involve others in an interesting, informative manner. Informative and persuasive speeches are stressed. Use of audio visuals, platform techniques are stressed during the participant's two presentations.

    STRESS MANAGEMENT (1/2 day; 1 day) helps identify personal and job related stressors in 7 categories and practical suggestions for coping with those elements that can not be eliminated or reduced. $10 charge per person for text used in this workshop.

    DEALING WITH DIFFICULT PEOPLE (1/2 day) helps you identify types of difficult people and situations and key internal and external strategies for dealing with them.

    RAPID READING (1 day) helps you double, even triple, your current reading speed. Helps the auditory reader become a visual reader. You read every word with improved comprehension through pacing techniques and techniques to eliminate regression.

    MANAGE YOURSELF EFFECTIVELY (1/2 day) helps you gain skills toward the competency of: "Manage self effectively as a committed and responsible employee who respects the rights of others."

     

    SUPERVISION SKILLS

    MANAGING CHANGE (1/2 day; 1 day) helps identify techniques to successfully implement change. Techniques to help plan and execute change in a five step model are presented and applied to the participant's situation. Suggestions are given to anticipate, identify and overcome resistance to change in yourself and others.

    DELEGATION (1/2 day; 1 day) helps identify appropriate tasks to be done by others, methods of selecting the right person for the job while remaining in control. Learn appropriate models to develop others, rather than delegate by dumping undesirable tasks. Use a secretary effectively and make the best use of clerical support personnel.

    LEADERSHIP STYLE (1 day) helps you judge the effectiveness of your current style. Identify how to improve your effectiveness by expanding your style in light of: 1) the maturity of subordinate's and 2) the current situation. Styles explored include tell, sell, participate and delegate as approaches to leadership. Learn how to model skills you want to develop in others.

    PERFORMANCE APPRAISAL AND GOAL SETTING (1 day) helps use current tools/forms correctly to fairly measure past performance and set common goals to improve employee performance. Parts of the form, how to observe and rate another's performance objectively are stressed. How to conduct the appraisal interview and write a developmental plan accepted by you and the subordinate. Avoid obstacles to goals.

    SELECTION INTERVIEWING (1 day) demonstrates how to select the best person for the job. Screen applications, questioning techniques and interviewing skills are covered. Assessing strengths and weaknesses and questioning techniques to develop information are stressed. Avoid illegal questions.

    TRAINING SUBORDINATES (1 day) helps develop on-the-job training techniques to improve employee performance. Uses the 4 step method of instruction (plan, present, try-out performance and follow-up evaluation). Identify the strengths and weaknesses of your style by teaching a sample lesson. Identify what helps others learn. Apply adult learning concepts in a non-threatening manner.

    SURVIVAL SKILLS FOR THE NEW SUPERVISOR (1 day; 2 day) helps the new supervisor adopt the appropriate perspective. Build confidence by redefining your role, analyze your communication style, handle issues in an assertive, not aggressive manner. Handle manipulative employees successfully and identify new stressors and how to deal with them successfully.

    COPING WITH CHANGES IN A TEAM ENVIRONMENT (1 day) helps identify how to handle change and still maintain team work.

    MAKE CHANGE HAPPEN PRODUCTIVELY (1 day) helps the supervisor identify his role in introducing change to reduce resistance. Learn key skills to make training employees how to do things the new way more effective.

    BUILD CREATIVE AND EFFECTIVE WORK TEAMS (1 day) identifies characteristics of effective teams, identifies how to use creative problem solving techniques to establish and maintain effective team work.

    SMART PROJECT MANAGEMENT (1 day) helps the project manager start up, define, control and conclude a project. Includes key project leadership skills.

    ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT SKILLS (1 day) helps the account representative plan client contacts, build client relationships, use adult learning techniques to inform the client, key client meeting skills and client maintenance tips.

    TRANSFER LEARNING TO THE WORKPLACE (1 day) helps the supervisor identify his role before, during, and after training to support the effective transfer of learning from the classroom to the workplace.

    INTERPERSONAL SKILLS

    CONDUCTING SUCCESSFUL MEETINGS (1 day) helps you run effective meetings, agenda planning, questioning skills, gaining participation from subordinates, consensus building, eliminating distractions and time wasters. Participants lead discussions as part of the application of this skill.

    COACHING AND COUNSELING (1 day) develops skills to help you effectively deal with deviant, disruptive or negative behavior that may result from an employee's problems that impact work. Successful interviewing and questioning techniques are stressed. Identifying subordinates mistakes, making suggestions, helping employees solve their own problems and guiding them through issues are included.

    CONFLICT MANAGEMENT (1/2 day; 1 day) helps identify techniques to resolve differences with and among employees. A variety of techniques can be tried to fit different situations. Assess personal strength and weaknesses in applying the process. This workshop promotes open communication in a win/win model.

    MOTIVATE PEOPLE SUCCESSFULLY (1 day) helps identify why we work and how to encourage others to do their best. Selecting the most practical approach for each person. Learn how to motivate the long term employee. Work with your attitude and those of others. How to give positive reinforcement and use criticism effectively without a negative reaction.

    EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATION (1/2 day; 1 day) helps the supervisor/manager/employee understand the essential elements of communication and analyzes the effectiveness of his/her current style. Practical suggestions for making communication work on a daily basis are explored in case studies. Barriers to communication are discussed and strategies to deal with difficult people practiced.

    BETTER CUSTOMER RELATIONS (1 day) identifies who are your customers, what are the standards of performance for your employees, what do your customers expect, practice skills to improve basic customer service and deal with difficult customers.

    HOW TO BE AN EFFECTIVE MENTOR (1 day) defines what a mentor is, identifies the five stages of mentor development and develops key mentoring skills.

    CHANGE PROBLEMS INTO OPPORTUNITIES (1 day) helps you refine your problem solving and decision making skills by using specific, proven methods of getting results. You will be given a framework for solving problems and practice alternative methods to develop this framework. Systematic and creative problem solving techniques are addressed and practiced.

    SECRETARIAL SKILLS WORKSHOPS

    HOW TO BE A MORE EFFECTIVE SECRETARY (1 day; 2 days) helps manage the proper role of a secretary. Helps to develop effective communication skills and the ability to work productively with a variety of people. Professional growth within the job is examined. Identify how to manage secretarial stress and solve problems for a smoother office routine.

    MANAGING YOUR TIME FOR GREATER PRODUCTIVITY (1 day) offers suggestions for secretaries to improve personal organization, planning, prioritizing, eliminating time wasters, handling interruptions and crisis management. Emphasis is placed on boss/secretary teamwork to improve productivity. Pre and post-workshop meetings with the bosses improves communication and extends the impact of the workshop.

    THE SECRETARY AS OFFICE MANAGER (1 day) helps secretaries who have office manager responsibility understand and manage their role. Work planning, goal setting and the essentials of supervision help sharpen the secretaries managerial skills. Effective communication techniques and positive interpersonal skills help the office manager achieve desired results.

    EFFECTIVE TELEPHONE TECHNIQUES (1 day) helps the secretary handle the basics of telephone calls, effectively screen and handle routine items, work on tone of voice, projecting the right image, handling difficult callers and get results.
