He is founder and director of Oxford Scientific Films in England, and appeared in, produced, and filmed the Emmy Award winning National Geographic Society television special, Realm of the Alligator. John Paling is an on-camera wildlife expert for The Disney Club television series, and producer and host of the television series Outdoors With John Paling.

He is the inventor of the Paling Perspective Scale, a Richter Scale for risks, which helps individuals and organizations view their major challenges in perspective. He presents global environmental issues in a non-adversarial manner, leading to an understanding of comparative risks and benefits. Dr. Paling has brought his extensive experience in risk communication issues to businesses, government agencies, military, and healthcare organizations worldwide.

Known as the "Oxford Animal Man," Dr. Paling earned his doctorate degree from Birmingham University in England. He went on to teach biology at Oxford University in England and later in the USA at the Universities of California and Florida.
