It's a journey that will inspire you to apply the lessons of risk, motivation, challenge, and change learned at high altitude to the down-to-earth aspects of everyday life. Her message invites you to reconsider your own possibilities both personally and professionally. WE CAN GET THERE FROM HERE - TEAMWORK, IT WORKS! REACHING NEW HEIGHTS - RISK TAKING Adventure/Athletics: I am the first American woman to stand atop Mt. Everest and have been leading expeditions for over 20 years. I draw from these experiences to discuss leadership, group dynamics, perseverance, risk-taking, and motivation. Business: Sales, Manufacturing, Financial, and Management. I am the president of a residential building company and can speak to leaders at all levels of the organization about leadership, strategy, decision making, and vision, and teamwork. Education: I sit on the Board of Trustees for National University. I speak to educators and administrators about change, teamwork, leadership, and accountability. Non-profit: I am the Chair of the American Lung Association of Oregon's largest fundraiser, Reach the Summit. I understand the fundamentals of not-for-profit work and the need to attract quality talent, define sustainable missions, and inspire the team despite the multitude of challenges faced by these organizations. 1. HAVE A CLEAR VISION. Your vision creates the guiding principles of your life. Vision guides your decisions and shapes your plan. You must clearly see where you want to go, develop a sound strategy and determine what you need to get there. Articulate a powerful vision that inspires you, your clients and family to partner with you. 2. LIGHTEN UP!When a situation gets tense, laughter or quiet humor releases tension. When we can laugh at ourselves, we relax and become more creative and effective.
3. DRINK TEA WITH OTHERS. Sometimes we get so caught up in the busy-ness of business we don't take the time to build relationships. Relationships create opportunities and build alliances. 4. ANTICIPATE CHANGE. Things are changing quickly all around us. We must stay alert, constantly examine and re-examine everything we do. Learn from your setbacks as well as your successes. Your vision may stay the same, but your path to that vision might change as new opportunities and obstacles appear. 5. SUCCESS IN FAILURE.Failure is only a temporary situation. It allows us to learn from our mistakes and get back on vision. Giving up is what makes failure permanent. 6. CELEBRATE. Small successes motivate us to continue what we do day after day. Honor small successes. Remember to look back at how far you've come. Give praise where praise is due. 7. STAY FOCUSED. Distractions are everywhere. Focus on that which you can control and which will help propel you toward your goals. 8. THINK BEYOND THE TOP. The top is the most vulnerable place to be because it is so tempting to rest there. We must come back down and set new goals for ourselves. The top is a place to renew your vision, to look for new opportunities. |
